April 8, 2010

Call to Order: 7:02

1. Welcome: Conducted by Jane Cartier

 

2. Minutes from Previous Meeting- Feb. 11, 2010:

     Addition to item 4 e-  the $5. Registration fee will subsidize bus maintenance and assist with the purchase of a second bus.

 

3. Student Report: SC- Susan Snobelen

  - Love Week- “crush sale”- (can of pop) - not successful

  - St. Patrick’s- green day- prize for best costume, jello eating contest went well

  - Easter- colouring contest

  - Marvel costume day- end of April

  - May 6/10- Prom $10./ticket- open age, theme: Red Carpet Romance

  - May 28/10- staff and student BBQ/baseball- combined with SAA- funds toward grad events

  - June 2/10- grad luncheon- for grads and staff (176 grade 12’s and 50 staff), no fee- covered by Student Council and school

  - June/10- looking into an entertainer or speaker

 

SAA: Shawn Cartier

-         Sign up for Intramurals- floor hockey

-         Pictures will be displayed on board soon

-         June/10- Awards banquet- Glad Tidings, dinner provided for the students

 

  4. Staff  Report: Karen Sullivan

     -Spaghetti dinner- girls’ volleyball team- raised over $2000.

    - Literacy test held today- 90 % attendance, no unexpected absences

   - Current sports: badminton, boys soccer, girls rugby

                 

5. Principal’s Report: Mark Sherman

   a) Staffing- 3 month process, some surplus expected: Mr. Kistulenic was the successful CL for the phys-ed dept.                  

   b) Hall Art/TVs- 6 more installations expected: TVs have been installed in halls

    c) OSSLT- Apr. 8/10- close to 100%  attendance

    d) Wireless Classrooms- approved in Jan., all post-secondary schools will receive wireless classrooms, could be installed at BDHS soon, students should be able to bring in own laptops as well – still subject to LKDSB screening firewalls for appropriate sites.

  e) Physical Plant Changes- gym has been painted, costing painting for hallway by the gym and by the office

   f) Mid-terms- In homeroom’s- April 23/10

   g) Parent’s Night- April 27/10 5:30- 7:00- Parent Council will not run a table / booth that evening – will stick to the Fall  BBQ during Parent’s Night.

 

  6. Policy/Procedure Review: Jane Cartier

   Handout- Council has been asked to read for next meeting and make notes to be discussed

 

7. School Council Chairs Meeting: April 15/10- Mark and Jane cannot attend.

Agenda handout- anyone wishing to attend notify Mark

 

8. PIC invitation: anyone interesting in serving on the PIC notify Mark- deadline April 30/10

 

9. Health and Safety: preventative asbestos sealing- 2 areas remaining to just end cap two pipe wraps – will be completed shortly.

  

10. Special Education: no report

 

11. Upcoming Events:

Spring Fling Prom- Red Carpet Romance- May 6/10 – 6:30 – 10:00

MADD assembly- April 15/10- video presentation funded through local insurance companies- presented to all students

 

12. Other Business:

  - Summer School- month of July- could be centralized or e-learning – under discussion a central level. –details to be released April 16th.
