Call to Order: 7:05

1. Welcome: Conducted by Anne Nanni

 

2. Student Report: Amanda Faubert, Student Council

    -Focus on fundraiser for Community Services ie. Big Brothers/Sisters

    - 12 to 12 event- $25. to participate

    -Christmas Boxes for Third World Countries- fill boxes for girl or boy, fee for sending to be paid by Student Council- can be done individually or through the classroom- shoe size boxes due by Nov. 17/09

    -semi-formal- Dec. 4/09- Theme: Fire and Ice $10./person, $18./ couple

   -Spring fling- May/10- posible limit to grades 11 and 12 –further discussion to follow closer to the time of the event

 

 3. Staff Report: P. Jackson

        -Football team- Kent Champions

        -Jr. & Sr. basketball in Kent finals

        -Sr. volleyball- Kent Champions

        -Fundraiser- citrus and cough dough sales

        -Sr. volleyball- poinsettia sales

       - Bingos held at Riverview Bingo- anyone interested in assisting see pat- supports

     bus expenses, uniforms and athletic programs

       - elementary- level volleyball tournaments currently being held at BDHS

      - volleyball camp to be held at BDHS this summer

      -mock literacy test on-going in grades 9 and 10

 

  4. Admin Report: M. Sherman

       Mid-term Report- distributed Nov. 12/09 to students, reviewed for “at-risk”

      students

       E-Learning- handout- could be new model for summer school; could be valuable

     for credit recovery classes

       Pupil Accommodation Report- denotes trends of student population in

    Schools ; projection for 5 years for BDHS: 2012-2013- approx. 475 students predicted as a possible bottoming out level before increasing again.

      School Climate Survey- can be completed through the website, BDHS has a

    7-8  community/parent % completion rate –good response rate.

      School Improvement Report- to be up-dated on school website- includes literacy

   support, physical plant up-grades etc.

     Grad Info Night- feedback: well received, will continue this event

 

     PP Presentation- (Ruth Mattingly) Oct. 24 event- Supporting Success Strategies for Parents- held over to next meeting Jan.14th.

    Grad Date Change- discussion around changing Grad to June, will not occur this year as this could alter the no. of awards given out – re-discuss with fuller SAC in Jan.

                 

5. Staff/Parent BBQ:

    Parent/teacher interviews Tues. Nov. 17/09 5:30 – 7:30

    Food has been arranged through Bedell’s

    Hats are in/spinner is ready

    Cooks- Jane and Mark

    Table Hosts- rotate amongst Council member

   Home room maps, newsletters and Council information will be available

 

7. Newspaper Articles: current status

     - Anne N. has researched  “Hot Jobs For the Future”- given to Mark

    

8. Health & Safety:

     -custodians will be doing more “wipe downs” of handled items in an effort to ward off   

     H1N1

-  public health nurse back on site at BDHS

 

9. Special Education: no items entered

 

 10.Open Items:

     Teacher absenteeism discussed- BDHS has a very low teacher absence rate

     Exams- will be on A,B,C,D rotation, one exam per day – day 1 schedule
