Nov.8, 2007

 

Call to Order: 7:03

1. Welcome: Conducted by Jane Cartier

2. Review of Oct. Minutes: J. Cartier-

           Minutes are now available on the Website and sent electronically

 

3. Student Report- SAA Rep: Alex Koehler

           -Remembrance Day Assembly- Nov. 9 at 8 a.m.- open to public

           - Halloween dance and Haunted House a success- more participation this year

          Up-coming:

           -Wacky Week in Nov. ie. hat day, wacky hair day –undecided where funds will be  

        going.

           -Student Council funds are plentiful- projects are determined by students and

       teacher

           -Tsunami school fund-closed  for now due to concerns where funds are going

           -Blenheim Christmas parade Dec.7/07- working on this

           -Fundraiser will be continued into next semester

           -Nov. 29/07- 5 students from BDHS attending Student Liaison Board activity in

      Dresden –BDHS presenting workshop on Cultural Diversity

 

4. Staff Report: P. Jackson

            -Nov. 15/07- report cards being sent home

            -Nov. 20/07- Parent’s night: BBQ 4:30 to 5:30, Teacher interviews 5:30 to 7:00

            -Teams: Jr. Basketball going to SWOSSA

                          Football-placed

             -Teams starting: hockey-girls and boys; Sr. & Jr. girls volleyball; curling; boys

         basketball; debating teams; dance team

             -Little Shop of Horrors musical scheduled for Nov. 22, 23, 24/07

             -Robotics are collecting used printer cartridges, any size, as a fundraiser

             -Nov. 30/07- P.A. Day

 

5. Principal’s Report: M. Sherman

            -Courtyard: Tour cancelled (too dark!), currently in phase 5-final phase

                              -bridge has been refurbished

           -School Beautification Grant: approved $2500. per school- funds will be matched

           -Bleachers: 2 have been donated by the Municipality and inspected

                              -Seats being  replaced with pressure treated wood

           -Funding: requested for electronic scoreboard and field hut

                         -sponsorship will be required for scoreboard- currently at Board for

           approval

           Nov. 2/07- PA Day: Teachers attended workshops on humour and  stress,

         Individual Education Plans, Literacy Supports and Policy Memorandum on Autism

                            -Parents of IEP students will receive a letter explaining the changes to

           the report card re: IEP, attached to the mid-term reports of IEP students

       -Rm. 62- Wood Construction has approval for hook-up of the CNC Router machine

                   -currently getting quotes from Electricians

      -Currently getting quotes for Robotics hook-ups of machine tools

 

6. PRO Grant: in process-could be received after the event

                       -Nov. 29/07- Blenheim Forum- Drug & Alcohol Use in Our Community

                            -7:00- 9:00 at BDHS,  Drug Awareness Council, Police Services, 

                            Student Services and possibly Rebecca Hare, former BDHS student are

                             speakers

                            -BIA providing food, BDHS assisting with food and promotion

                            - Meeting on Nov. 14/07 to firm up specifics

 

7. Parent Teacher Night: Nov. 20/07 5:30 to 7:00

                             -BBQ- 4:30 to 5:30, M. Sherman has staffed food tent, additional

                        volunteers welcome

                              -P. Jackson suggested condiments be provided by SAA

                              -Numbers will be estimated based on call-ins for interviews

 

8. May 8/07 Council meeting- cancelled to allow for members to support Harwich-

              Raleigh’s Ron Moorish Presentation on the “Secrets of Discipline”

 

9. Health & Safety: Concerned raised about doors being locked during dances

             -doors are locked to monitor access to the building and to ensure students are not

        leaving the building to obtain weapons, alcohol or illegal substance then returning to

       the school dance, students are checked upon initial entrance

                -students requiring use of the phone to call for rides can speak to a teacher

               -M. Sherman (or VP) remains on-site during theses activities until all students

                have been picked up or have left the school property.

 

10. Special Education: no report

 

11.Other Items:

    M. Sherman, J. Cartier, G. Snobelen attended workshop on Increasing Parental  

    Involvement on Oct. 18/07. After Christmas these ideas will be brought to Council for

   discussion.
