Call to Order: 7:05

Student Report- SAA Reps: Alicia Bond, secretary SAA
-Volleyball game-staff against students to be held next week during lunch
-Athletic board to be installed to recognize athletes
-Name boards (magnetic) have been installed in the gym
- SAA will be promoting physical activity and healthy living through
intramurals at lunch and weight room memberships for $20.
-Spirit Night was held Sept. 19 with aprox. 200 participants
-Citrus Fundraiser will be coming soon
Health discussion:
All carbonated sugar drinks will be phased out of the schools by 2009 and replaced
with fruit juices and water. (Bottlers Association Voluntary withdrawal)
Suggestion that students who are not on teams, but promote fitness, also be
recognized on the SAA bulletin board.
The Annual Sports banquet is held at the end of the school year. It was suggested that
information regarding this event be better communicated. A. Mott stated that it
will be an open invitation this year.
Staff Report: K. Sullivan
Pat Jackson will be Staff Representative for this Council year
Tour of Robotics room to be given.
Principal’s Report: M. Sherman
MCV 4U host- K. Sullivan will be instructor of video conferencing
World Record Walk:
- Invitation sent only to schools not the general public to
maintain control and for student safety.
- Good newspaper coverage of the event- suggestion made to put
newspaper article on SAA bulletin board.
-This 1 km. walk had 80% of student and teacher participation.
Consent to Imaging Doc/Implications:
Listed on web-site and will be in Nov. newsletter.
School must be notified if parents do not wish student to be
photographed.
Students under 18 yrs. of age must have parental consent to have picture
in the newspaper. M. Sherman has let the press know of this policy for the
protection of the students.
School Growth Plan: In progress, reviewing health & safety, well-being, student
achievement and school facilities.
EQAO: Grade 9 Math results- Individual student reports and Ministry page
explaining concepts of EQAO, went home today.
People for Education Annual Conference: Nov. 3, 2007- hand-out
School Advocate Newspaper: circulated
Codes of Conduct- Bullying defined:
Bill 212- Safe School Legislation
-believed to discriminate against Special Needs students and race through
high suspension rates.
-bullying has been added as a suspension category
-M. Sherman read definition of bullying.
Awards: Under-graduate- recognition ceremony held in June with teachers nominating up
to two students from each class based on achievement and effort.
This allows for more student recognition.
PRO School Grant: hand-out- M. Sherman and J. Cartier
Coordinating with the Police and the Community re: Drug Awareness and
Youth Social Alternatives.
Motion:
That the Council approves this proposal of Parents Reaching Out.
Moved, seconded, All in favour: passed.
M. Sherman and J. Cartier will attend Community Partners meeting on Oct. 12/07.
BBQ- Parental Involvement dollars- to be held in conjunction with the parent/teacher
interviews. M. Sherman will advertise through the paper and synervoice to parents.
–free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks to be served. All help welcome.
Commencement: Concerns expressed about the event being held on a Thurs. night, it has
been noted that Thurs. night has shown the best turn out for the event.
